(Jan 5th, open to Rattlesnake Jake, the Medic, and any villains bold enough to enter the desert)
It was a natural habitat.
That was what Jake's senses told him as he sat in a coiled position in the drifting sands of the desert. It wasn't too different from home, save a perturbing lack of cacti. Nevertheless, Jake had been one of the few folks who had been able to enter the desert and come back out of it in one piece. At least, that's what he could reckon. He had seen a few shadows of figures he hadn't seen around in the jungle, but most of the folks he had seen around were too scared to enter the endless desert. Course, the fact that the expanse likely more than a week's journey to get anywhere, it probably wasn't a surprise that the more severe water-huggers wouldn't feel safe out here.
One of the few tactics that Jake had used to make sure that he never lost sight of the green of the jungle. Thus, he had learned to slither almost sideways, making sure he just didn't act like a fool and lose his senses to the heat. After all, the ground here was hardly firm, so there weren't tracks to follow back. It was nicer than listening to the constant squabble of the morons back in the camp, however. Couldn't even use his bullets and venom to shut them up, if he wanted to.
Jake cringed as he heard footsteps crunching the sand. He quivered in frustration. "Who in their most insane of lost wits would dare to come this far out?" he cursed under his breath.

Sand crunched beneath boots as the Medic made his way through the desert. Before leaving the shelter of the jungle leaves, he'd made certain to acquire a clean water source, and some edible plants. Having fought in every imaginable climate on Earth, he had plenty of experience with surviving in plenty of inhospitable locations, and he'd been careful to keep the jungle in sight. Without a compass, or even a map, it would be easy to get lost in this desert. But it was he'd glimpsed, just barely, on the horizon that had drawn him out into the brutal heat. A phantom mountain range, barely glimpsed with the corner of the eye. If he could just reach it, he might be able to determine where he was. Or at least get a better idea of the area he now found himself in.
As he walked, he saw some signs in the sand where something had recently passed, though the shifting sands quickly erased them from existence. Squinting his eyes, and shielding them with a gloved hand, he peered around, catching sight of a snake wearing a cowboy hat. "Und now zee animals are wearing zee hats. Maybe zis is some test of hallucinatory toxins."
The idea intrigued him, just as much as the prospect of actual talking animals did. Out of curiosity, he approached the snake, looking it over. It closely resembled a rattlesnake, only with no rattle. That in itself was intriguing. "I don't suppose you can schpeaken zee human language?"

Jake looked slightly offended. For one thing, no critter alive had the gall to talk to him so loosely. Humans were especially big cowards when it came to his appearance. The fact that this fool would be grunting at him at all made the snake irate and more irritated that his venom was not more potent at the time. Otherwise, he would have struck him down right then and there.
However, the human went on to talk even more. At least, it sounded like talking. "What in tarnation are ya'll trying to spit out?!" he demanded, shaking his bare tail as threateningly as he could. He glowered as he kept himself coiled up, waiting to see if this new idiot would try to attack in any way.
