Name: Animality
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Hero or Villain?: Villain
Canon or OC?: OC
Personality:
Animality simply thinks he’s the hottest thing since sliced bread. He’s got an ego, but he uses it to his advantage – there’s very little that can put a damper on his near constant good mood. In spite of his self-loving, he’s a fairly laid back guy. He’s so laid back he’ll frequently take naps during downtime. Animality is an impish prankster but never means serious harm. In fact, he’s rarely serious ever. While humorous, it’s often a very sick sense of humor. Animality doesn’t have much of a filter and can’t stand staying quiet. The concepts of “wrong” and “right” often elude him. When he can get it, he loves exercise. His goal is to get everyone to have a good time and just chill. However, his feelings will be hurt if he (quite understandably) gets beaten for his constant commentary. While not incredibly bright, he’s a spinner of strange tales and a singer of folk songs. He’s sort of like a batshit crazy bard.
Appearance:
Animality is a medium-sized mammalian creature (about 3 and a half feet as the shoulder). His fur is a light shade of sage with dark, dull splotching. His fur is a bit longer around his body than it is on the rest of him. His build is very similar to a hyena, with a strongly developed front end and sparsely-muscled back legs. His neck is also long and muscular. Fairly dainty paws contain semi-retractable claws. His tail is long with medium-length fur and a white-tipped end. Animality’s muzzle is long and crooked from being broken a long while ago. His jaw is so crooked that his black nose is slightly turned to the left. His teeth as well are jumbled up from the broken nose. His ears are decently long and pointed at the end. One of his ears is missing near the base. A large black stripe runs from the back of his head to the end of his nose. Whiskers are as wide as his body. Animality’s eyes are a bright orange color.
Brief History:
Animality would recall his heritage with the rudest of sailor’s mouths, but he often simply sums it up by singing a song about his parents he calls “Daddy was a hyena, Mommy was a house cat”. For most of his childhood, he went under the radar in the Warren. Animality belonged to a large group of animal hybrids (and the descendants) created by gene-splicing who managed to survive a war thanks to their resistance to toxic gas and currently reside in a ghost town they call the “Warren”. Animality happens to be the second generation of animals. In youth, he was still a “class clown”. He managed to get beaten up by a thug named Enforce who broke his nose when he was only a ten years old. Most of the animals believed he would be unable to eat and die, but the hyena-cat managed to pull through okay. It was this experience that lead him to be a sympathizer with those who were subject bullying (without realizing he was borderline a bully himself).
He attempted to get into the official guard protecting the Warren, but wasn’t viewed as serious enough for the task. Animality decided that was that and went into a routine that mostly involved napping and chasing rodents in the woods for some years. His path in life took a turn when the leader of the Warren, Matriarch, was murdered one night and there was a great deal of debate on who should replace her. Her son, Rancor, frequently spread his dogma but during one of his speeches, Animality boasted that he could be leader instead. Rancor beat him in front of the majority of the Warren residents, tearing off his ear and humiliating him. The hyena-cat was comforted by one of Rancor’s friends, Gambit the lemurlike animal. As Rancor and his growing clan of followers were forced to leave by the official guards, Gambit stood up against Rancor for not allowing non-mammals to join them. Gambit was also defeated and humiliated in front of everyone. This sparked an on-going alliance between Animality and Gambit – although the hyena-cat was happy to let Gambit be the “leader”.
After the Captain of the Guard, Sanctuary, was chosen to be leader, Rancor and his followers were angry. Soon after, Rancor rebelled with his followers and overtook the opposition, ridding the Warren all non-mammals and any who did not want to live under him. Gambit was allowed to live in the Warren because he and Rancor used to be friends – so Animality and the remainder of Gambit’s followers became a part of the Warren’s new order as well. During Rancor’s rule, him and Gambit grew further apart and they saw less and less of each other. Whereas Gambit’s rank dropped as he continually betrayed Rancor, Animality was finally accepted into the new guard and couldn’t be happier. However technically a guard, he was more widely recognized as the entertainer and as the unhappy residents of the Warren put it, “Rancor’s jester”. But even Animality eventually grew troubled with the declining state of the Warren and especially the fact that Gambit was frequently beaten in front of the others as an example. Animality considered rekindling his friendship with Gambit and starting a little revolution of their own. The hyena-cat strives to draw others away from Rancor and toward Gambit’s loyalty with fantastic promises of a better life.
But as Gambit’s numbers grew, Animality suddenly found himself awoken from one of his naps by unfamiliar sounds and smells. The hyena-cat was somewhere far away. It was warmer and less snow-y. While he felt a little more at home in the higher humidity, he was perplexed as to how he got there. Animality wanted other animals to have fun with, so he set off on a search.
Sample Post:
“Up and over the fronds and leaves, where the sky is open and the air flows, over and up the hills he goes, off and away our hero Animality!”
A narration came from the long-necked pale green animal as he trotted up an incline in the jungle. His bent nose was facing out and his tail was lifted up high. Animality didn’t exactly seem troubled by his predicament. Any creature thrown into unfamiliar ground was bound to be frightened, but the hyena-cat was surprisingly immune. Nice little rhymes and songs helped him to keep sane…or insane.
“I see the sky. I wonder if the Warren is over the apex. Maybe this is some kind of joke. Hm. I don’t see how it’s funny,” The blotchy green animal broke out of his verses for some straight talk to himself.
Animality jumped over a log and stood up straight once he reached the open spot overlooking the valleys. Looking around, he could see nothing but the dark green of the tropical forest. It was discouraging to see nothing he recognized. One of his paws lifted to it could be licked nervously. A fear began to stir inside him as he wondered if he would be big enough to avoid being hunted. Swinging his head around, he desperately looked for company.
“Why isn’t there anyone? There isn’t even a little roach to talk to. How can the plants be less-dead here without more animals that are alive? Everything is green and I’m happy my fur is green too. Am I supposed to live here?"
