Name: Vanellope Von Schweetz
Age: 10
Gender: F
Hero or Villain?: Hero
Canon or OC?: Canon
Personality: A girl who doesn’t often seem afraid to speak her mind, Vanellope generally comes off as obnoxious and annoying at first glance due to her spunky nature. She is full of an energy that seems uncontainable, and can also be a bit of a smartmouth, though this does shield a vulnerable side that, due to having been pushed around for years, she lets hardly anyone see.
Appearance: A scruffy-looking young girl, Vanellope’s black hair is tied back into a ponytail by a thick strand of liquorice, and speckled with sweets. She has hazel eyes, and a head that is somewhat large when taken in proportion to the rest of her body. She wears a mint-green hoody, dark skirt, striped stockings and black racing boots.
Brief History: Created to be the princess of the arcade game Sugar Rush, Vanellope never actually had chance to experience this role when a jealous ex-racer from another game sneaked into her castle and accessed the code, reprogramming the game to make him the king and trying to delete Vanellope herself for good. Unsuccessful in the latter endeavour, the self-proclaimed King Candy found he had instead made the girl into a glitch. Locking up the memories of the game’s other citizens to prevent any of them recognising her, Candy made Vanellope an outcast, and convinced his subjects that she was a freak, an abnormality to be shunned, never meant to exist. Driven from the castle she didn’t even remember had been her home, Vanellope spent fifteen lonely years as an outcast, dreaming fruitlessly of the day she would be able to race alongside the others like Taffyta and Candlehead.
A dream that would eventually be realised with the unplanned arrival of Wreck-it Ralph into her game. Though the two began at odds when she stole the medal he had earned in Hero’s Duty (*Pffft*) to buy her way into the race, the unlikely duo eventually ended up working together to build her a real cart and prepare her for the race. Not everything went smoothly – most notably when Ralph got tricked by King Candy into trying to stop Vanellope from racing, smashing the cart, and all her hopes and dreams along with it, to pieces and resulting in her capture by the King – but eventually, Vanellope made it to the race, and not only survived King Candy’s attempts to kill her by using her glitching abilities to her advantage, but also the cy-bug invasion of her game and saved Ralph’s life into the bargain. Crossing the repaired finish line, the game reset and Vanellope was revealed in her original role as the princess – a role she cast aside in favour of the title of president instead – and welcomed back into the game by her fellow racers. Adored by the game’s players, and with her best friend/practically big brother Ralph visiting her frequently when the arcade was closed too, Vanellope was certain life was going too good to take any more bad turns.
She was rudely awakened from this state of bliss when she abruptly found herself in this strange world.
Sample Post: Jerking awake, the little president sat up abruptly, gasping as she clawed her way back to consciousness. Another nightmare; she'd been having them frequently; of cy-bugs and of that horrible grey-skinned racer who had called himself Turbo. Of Ralph falling that long, long way Turbo had dropped him, but instead of ending the swarm returning as a cy-bug himself... Vanellope swallowed hard, trying to rid herself of those particular images. Ralph was fine, she knew, she had seen him only a few days ago. Still, she could use a little reassurance.
"Sour Bill?" she called out, glancing around to see if he had heard her stirring and come to check on her - and then did a double-take.
She was on her feet in an instant. Instead of the castle's luxury bedroom where she thought she'd gone to sleep, Vanellope was instead standing in the middle of a dense jungle. And not a candy jungle, either; a real jungle with real, solid, inedible trees, like nothing in the world of Sugar Rush. Like nothing she'd seen in any of the games she'd visited with Ralph afterwards, either. Where was she?
"Okay, Vanellope, don't panic," she chided herself softly, fighting to remain calm. There had to be an explanation, she was sure. Maybe... maybe Ralph was playing a trick on her, had taken her to a new game while she slept to see how she'd react? It didn't really sound likely, but Vanellope was just grasping at explanations here, trying not to panic, not to start glitching uncontrollably...
Actually, that was the weird thing. She wasn't trying not to glitch with anxiety - but neither was she glitching at all. And Vanellope knew she hadn't controlled her strange special ability that well. With a nasty feeling in the pit of her stomach, Vanellope tried to glitch, just up to the nearest tree branch.
Nothing.
Not even the slightest sparkle of blue code.
Her resolve not to panic disolved almost instantly. She couldn't glitch... whatever that meant, it could be no good thing, she was sure of it.
